Slugs

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Is it just me, or does anyone else have problems with slugs on their hives? I've got them crawling round by the entrance munching on dropped pollen and also climbing onto the inspection tray munching away there too. The bees don't seem to be bothered. The only thing that concerns me is that if they are eating any Varroa on the inspection tray them I'll be getting falsely low mite counts.

Any ideas on how to deter them? The chickens used to love slugs, but have now gone off them and will only eat snails

Thanks

Someone suggested copper sleeves on the hive stand legs.

NBG if you hives are on blocks or close to the ground. In that case the first move would be to raise them away from the ground.
