HennyPenny
I've just found the remains of a cross stitch kit I did as a sampler for a friend's wedding many years ago and have decided I'd like to do another one for my daughter's wedding on New Year's Eve as a surprise gift. The problem is, the pack just says '100% cotton fabric' and I'm pretty sure it was aida but it seems to come in a range of different 'counts' and I have no idea which one I should buy. Any ideas please? It also says the finished size is 20 x 24cms so how big a piece will I need to buy? Thanks in advance HP
Couperwife
ooooh, re-doing cross stitch - exciting ive not done cross stitch for ages, but this is what I can remember - hope its helpful the finished size is the longest bit of stitching in each direction, so I would probably add about 5cm to the length and breadth, that way you are sure to have plenty - especially if you want to frame it (you might want to make it into a cushion, so then pick up the right amount for the size of the cushion) the thread count should be on the pattern , it can make a difference to the completed size - i think the most commonly used size is 14 thats 14 little squares per inch (I hope im not sounding condescending - im not meaning to ) but it could be 10 or it could be up to 18 or it could be even weave - thats a lot finer and more like linen, its generally double what the aida count is. i hope this is somewhere near useful cathy x
