Newbie to keeping chickens

Recommended Posts

Hi

I live in Norfolk and have three weimaraners and intend to get some chickens in the spring- ex batts.

At the moment I am sorting out the garden for the chooks. I have a bit of garden that is 10ft x 35ft which I intend to make into a chicken run, this will be fully enclosed with posts and chicken wire. The run will be 6ft high with chicken wire over the top as well to stop the local cats. I will have the chicken wire buried in the ground as well to stop any unwanted visitors and this will also have 300 mm x 300 mm paving slabs all the way around.

I am going to buy a cube without the run together with extra feed and water containers.

How many hens will this piece of land and cube accommodate?

Thank you for your help, I just want to get everything right before I get my girls

Plenty of space!

Have you checked out the 'building a Walk in Run' thread for ideas??

On the Whole chicken wire is not recommended as Foxy can chew through it. Also having a 'roof' is a god send on mine as they do need some shelter from the wet. The clear corrugated stuff is fab, or they'll be running about knee deep in mud!
