Unsecure chicken perches

Had my girls for 5 days now and a couple of days ago,when I pulled out the droppings tray of the cube

I noticed there was a fair bit of what I would say looked like a heavy case of dandruff.

 

It was only a small sprinkle, evenly distributed over both poo trays and there were a couple of big bits, still only about 3mm long.

 

Im assuming they are from the scales on the legs of the chickens, but is this normal?

 

Ive read about mites that can get under the scales, but all their legs and feet look fine to me who has 5 days experience!

 

I wondered if they tend to have a bit of a scratch at night when settling down.

 

Theres no sign of pecking damage.

The "dandruff" type stuff is Dander, it falls off from their feather shafts and is quite normal to see. I think it falls as they preen their feathers, but we notice it more when it falls on the poo tray.
