jophoto
In an effort to improve hygiene I removed the bedding from the laying bit of my cube it was ok for a little while but now the chickens have stopped laying in it and yesterday I found them eating an egg that one had laid in the garden. Should I reinstate the bedding? Or could there be another reason for this behaviour? Thanks.
chicken bark
I'd definitely have a good thick layer of bedding in their nesting area. Maybe without the bedding they didn't know where to lay and so the egg got cracked in the garden? Mine will eat eggs that are already cracked but don't seem to peck at them if they are in the nesting area. You'll need to keep on top of the egg collecting for a while in case they get a taste for it.
