JB09
Hi everyone... My pekin bantam chicks are six weeks old and still with mum. I have two boys which are going to my breeders and one girl in which I am keeping. They are growing fast and I am going on holiday in two weeks time. Am I best to wait for mum to push them away or is it cruel to separate them before hand? I am looking to put mum back with the flock, send the boys to the breeders and bring a little girl home as a friend for the girl I am keeping. I will then be able to deal with intros when I get back. Only if I do this I need to set the wheels in motion this week so I know everything is ok before I go. My neighbour is looking after them and will do anything but I want to make things as easy as possible. Alternatively should I wait and do this all when I get back, by which time the chicks will be around nine weeks! Sorry to go on
jellykelly
As you have two weeks before the holiday, I would go with your first idea. Remove the mum, return the boys and bring home 2 girlies (yes I know you said 1, but i think 2 is a nicer number). Mum has time to reintergrate with the flock - under your supervision, and you can ensure that everything goes well with the young uns'. You'll then be able to go away and relax knowing that all is calm at home.
