Is your dog's unusual barking a secret code for something mysterious?

Our 7 week old chicks have been outside for a couple of weeks now, and are getting bigger by the day We've today had a move around of the coop/runs for the chicks and the fully grown ladies, and have now run out of chick crumb! I was wondering if it would be okay to change to grower's pellets now, or should I get more crumbs?
