essexgary
Hi all, completed my apiguard treatment yesterday and removed the inspection tray from the mesh floor (beehaus) back to its normal position. Within 10 minutes I looked under the hive and there were about 50 bees clinging to the bottom of the mesh floor from the outside. Also, lots of activity around the spot where the stand meets the hive, bees walking along the stand and then gathering around that corner.. I'm guessing the contact feeder which I also put on may have leaked. Generally, they were acting out of character yesterday - quite excited etc. I thought they may have been having an 'end of apiguard' party... lots of flying around the beehaus entrance and flying in circles above (like orientation flights). Maybe I also spilt some syrup which caused a little bit of robbing, but I have very gold coloured bees and usually robbers are easy to spot. Also no fighting spotted. Just one of those days I guess - as usual, spent the whole day worrying about everything from 'maybe the queen is missing' to 'the hive is being robbed to oblivion' but of course, once again, by 7.30, they were all tucked up in bed... Old Speckled Hen
Mine celebrated the end of Apilife by chasing me away from the apiary every time I tried to feed them, so much so that I have to suit up now to even lift a roof. Laying's picked up and there's lots of new brood. The thymol really does knock some queens back I hear. Absolutely masses and masses of ivy on its way, must be less than a week as I've seen the odd open flower, BUT we have so much rain and wind forecast I often see lots of bees under the floor on one of the hives but they are all back by night time.
