Darren Beaumont
Just did a major clean in preparation for winter. Put a huge clear tarp over the run and put aubiose on the floor. My hens did not know what to make of it as they have been used to bark. Had a job getting them in as they seemed scared of it! Had to push them all in. They stood there motionless for about 10 minutes totally unsure. They then tried eating it, that didn't work. Better dig in it then!
chickenNutter
Well you don't call people who are scared of the slightest thing 'chicken' for nothing!
Chortle Chook
I think that chickens can be quite touchy about how things feel on their feet, especially new things. I started off with gravel on the floor of my run area but worried that it might be a bit sharp so I replaced it with nice diggable shrub / rose compost. When I went to put my chickens in they tried to run around the edge holding onto the wire with their feet so that they did not have to stand on the floor at all. It was a sight to see The next morning when I let them out they all jumped from their nest area onto a branch I have and looked down in horror. Still they did get used to it and are quite happy now.
