CallyChook
As most of you know, Morgana the gold laced orpington went from being Sir Lancelot's favourite and overtrodden hen, to Sir Galahad's mortal enemy and bottom of the pecking order. The treadled damage then became pecking damage, and she has been sprayed and coated with every poultry product imagineable in the interrim. Today, for the first time in a year, the tubular growths on her back... two of them have the tinyest tuft of feather poking through!!!! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~well done Morgiee!!!!~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* It's been a cessation of antipecking tar spray and the commencement again of gentian violet that has cracked it, and also leaving the coop pop hole open but the run locked at night for three nights I think htat has done it, as I found that the only time the other girls were getting pecky was in the morning after waking up, but before I was letting them out for the day - so for a few days the three others have been down in the run waiting for me, and Morgana has waited in the coop. In the past I tried a saddle but she didnt much agree with it, but hopefully today Mr Royal Mail will be bringing me a new style of one with wing attachments. I have been loathe to try it over the summer as we had a red mite problem and didnt want the critters finding another opportunity to drive her mad hiding under a saddle, but they finally seem to be under control (if not gone) and the cooler weather makes me feel more ready to try again with the saddle. The new feather growth has me feeling very good this morning, and Morgana looks very impressed with herself. If I had the money I would have isolated her a long time ago but this would not only mean a new coop but new fencing too, and I just have not had the money with having the new birds to look after too, and vets fees for one of my cats. The plan remains that after returning to work and full wages, Morgana and a couple of the silkies will move to a new area and coop - I just dont feel so bad now that she seems to be recovering a little. All the while her comb and wattle have been the deepest red and she has been eating drinking and generally tinkering around with Faye, but it's still going to be the best to move her in the long run.
