chickens

Recommended Posts

Hi mum4, and welcome to the forum. I'm not an expert, but here are my thoughts. I'm sure somebody else with more knowledge will come along soon.

There are a number of things it could be, ranging from her trying to rearrange the contents of her crop (not serious), to gapeworm (serious but rare) or a respiratory infection (serious but common). Could you maybe give more information, e.g. describe the spasms in a bit more detail (frequency, how serious, etc.)? Is she showing any other signs of illness? Is she eating and drinking okay?

Chickens are very good at hiding things, so by the time we notice illness, it is likely to be serious. If her condition deteriorates then my advice would be to take her to a vet. Good luck.

One of ours done this too, at first i thought she was burping, then maybe something was stuck. When the vet checked her he said it was sour crop. Hopefully yours may not be the same but if it goes on to long best to get her checked. Ours now has reocurring bouts, seems once they get it its common for them to get it again.
