Lynn
Morning, I have had two quail die in the last week and a half, leaving two behind. I don't know what is going on. The girls are not particularly old - around 7/8 months perhaps. They are kept in an aviary (with finches flying around) and I clean the aviary regularly and they get plenty of fresh food and water. Are quail prone to dieing for no particular reason? If another one dies I'm reluctant to get any more but then what do I do with just one? I don't know what to do. I'll clean the aviary this morning - I don't use disinfectant because I thought the quail might be too small to handle it, but do you think I should use something? All thoughts and help very welcome. beach chick
hi Lynn - I'm guessing they had no marks on them? only I've lost a couple to fighting, which they seem very prone to do if the gender balance is wrong (and hard to sort out given that both the experienced people I got them from - 2 different people - did their level best to only give me girls!). other than that, I'm a bit stumped! I think mine are cold at the moment, they are spending a lot of time 'indoors', but that confuses me too as I thought they were meant to be pretty hardy and it's not that cold yet... Lynn
Hi, No marks. Both of them just seemed to be sitting down, not able to move. The other two seem to be bombing around at the moment so hopefully nothing wrong, fingers crossed. L
beach chick
quail seem harder to keep happy than chooks, much more aggressive towards each other! they are cute though. hope your remaining two stay fit and healthy.
