Unsecure chicken perches

for information I lost on of my 3 hens recently, and she was the one that "ruled the roost".

 

There are two issues following this really. I only had one egg in the week before she died from the 3 of them, since then ive had no eggs in 3 weeks.

 

The other issue is that I have a cube and since they have just been the two girls they have been sleeping in the nesting box not on the roosting bars for some reason. I dont know whether they have stopped laying because of using the nest to sleep.The area is getting soiled a they appear to be in there all night.

 

I dont know if anyone has any ideas but I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

How old are they and are they hybrids or pure breeds?

 

The shortening days will have an impact on their laying. Pure breeds will stop from around mid Oct to Mid Feb, and hybrids in their second year or beyond will lay sporadically or not at all during the winter, depending on their age. The older, the fewer eggs you will see.

 

Always worth worming them as a precaution, using Flubenvet, and giving them a **Basic Health Check** to see if anything shows itself.

 

Sleeping in the nesting box won't make a difference to their laying.

I had the hens from omlet, in april 2009 so they may reach 2 years old after xmas so they are not that old .I have one of each variety.

I will try the other suggestion..
