StephenW
As I am hopeing to keep bees next year what would be good plants to plant that have a high nectar and pollen content? Thanks Stephen
Old Speckled Hen
The problem with such planting is that you have to plant flowers en masse for the bees to use them. The odd few plants dotted about the garden will benefit bumbles though. Early and late sources are good though. Willow and crocus for spring ( I planted a thousand crocuses a few yards away from the hives) mahonia, sedum for autumn. If you have ivy in the garden then don't cut it back to enable it to mature and flower. It is an important late pollen and nectar source. The following may help http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pollen_source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forage_(honeybee Good luck Edit PS as a general rule any open simple flower will be used. Avoid fancy double flowers which are often sterile
