jackie45
It snowed last night and I wondered how the hens would react. Bella and Charlotte had lots of snow last year but Dotty and Esmeralda have never seen it before. They FR and were most reluctant to come out. When we came back from shopping they had all gone back to bed. I did get them out by making daft noises (as you do) and rattling corn in a box. They are now in a small dry greenhouse with food and water but I wonder how I am going to get them out tonight! Charlotte is moulting and I got some growers pellets while shopping. Should I try to give it to her alone or mix it with the layers pellets as I expect they will all eat from any bowls around. I would be grateful for advice. Old Speckled Hen
Extra protein is good for when they are moulting and I give mine tuna or some cat food as an afternoon treat. Poultry spice is good too. They all get it as it's impossible to just treat one or two. Why do chooks moult this time of year.......daft!!! Mine get Garvo Alpha Chickens so I have no experience whether growers pellets will be taken in preference to layers if you mix them. Perhaps you could feed just growers for a week. Anyway I'm sure somebody who knows will be along soon.
