Limping help !

Recommended Posts

Hi

I hve just got in from work and let the chicks out and noticed that Nikki is limping quite badly, I have washed her feet and has a good look, no sign of any wounds or cuts on her legs or feet, she will let me touch the bad one and doesn't flinch or cry in pain, what do you guys think may have happened, we are supposed to go away tomorrow for a few days but I won't go if I think she may need to go to the vet, I am quite in a panic now, what do you think it may be ??

thanks

If you can gently feel down her bones you should be able to feel any obvious abnormality or bad break. If there is nothing she may well have strained/sprained/injured herself in some way that may not be too critical. She may respond to some pain relief from the vet but in your circumstances she may also respond well to a few days of rest. I don't know what your set up is but you leave her in a situation where she doesn't have to move around too much to get food and water to enforce rest. If she hasn't improved at all when you get back you could make an appointment with your vet. It is really your call and you may have to base your decison on how happy she seems to be and how much you think you may worry while you are away. I had a lame hen recently that took a good 10 days to become sound again. She was rested and medicated (meds started on day 2 of lameness). Good luck :)
