ellyjay1
Hi everyone, Yesterday, we adopted two chickens, along with their eglu and run, from a friend who is moving house. They are about a year old. They seem to have settled in well and we have had one egg already! The only problem is that Gingernut has got feathers missing from the back of her neck (already like this when she arrived) and, this morning, I noticed a tiny speck of blood in the same area. I've been watching them but can't see Pepperpot pecking her. But I guess that must be what's happening. We are keeping them in their eglu run at the moment but will be building them a bigger run next weekend so they can run about a bit more in the day. Could they just be bored? Are they more likely to be pecked when they're in the eglu at night? Should I let them out earlier in the morning? I already feel very responsible and don't want either of them to be unhappy! Thank you very much for any help! Elly
Egluntyne
She could be moulting. The neck is a typical area, and if new quils aare coming through, her companion might find them tasty. Try giving then distractions in the form of a cabbage to peck at or a solid grain block like click.
