Stedic
Hello all, I've got 5 girls, 2 hybrids and 3 ex-bats who were rescued in September. The hybrids took a while to get going but have laid every day since. The ex-bats never stopped laying, from the two eggs they laid on the way home, we have had 3 eggs from them almost every day. We had temperatures of -14 overnight during the cold spell, and not even that stopped them. But since Sunday evening when I last collected them, there have been no eggs! I'd usually expect 10. We've had a bit of a cold spell over the last few days, its been -2's and 3's and I've left the cube door open - do you think this could be why they've all gone off lay at the same time? In all honesty it'd be quite handy if they've gone off lay, the ex-bats haven't feathered up yet despite plenty of ex-batt food and TLC, so I'm hoping this might give them a chance. I'm just a little concerned it could be something more serious, especially with them not feathering up yet. I'll re-worm them and maybe get in some ex-batts pellets - anything else worth trying to ensure they're OK? STeve
Chucky Mama
It is worth worming them with Flubenvet and ensure that they are taking in enough pellets or mash especially if they are free ranging. Too many snack may not be helping. Iced up water can reduce fluid intake during cold weather and this can contribute to reduced egg production so make sure that there is plenty of access to water
Stedic
They may have had reduced access to water with the cold weather, though I don't think so. They're getting through plenty of pellets and I don't think we have a rodent problem. They've had fewer snacks this week than normal, so shouldn't be that. I've ordered some Flubenvet pelllets (I'm never sure I get the dose/mixing right with powder), I'll give them a weeks course then the same again in 3 weeks. I'll change the run flooring next week so if there are worms they'll be dug out and Bio-Dri'd. Think I'll give them a good de-lousing and scrub the Cube out again (no signs of red mite or lice, but why not). If all that doesn't work, I'll assume they're just being awkward so and so's for a while. Steve
sari
Could they all have had a shock, like a fox or cat trying to get in?? I'm sure I've read on here that can put them off lay for a while..
