flamingo
Anyone got any bright ideas as to how to stop rats getting food from cube? Just saw enormous one walk in through door and help himself in broard daylight! I could try only putting food out first thing for an hour or so before I let chooks out as hopefully rat family too fat to fit through bars of the run (?) but can't leave door shut all day as chooks FR and won't be able to get back in to lay or drink (: Any ideas? Tweety
I'm afraid that the only way to stop it is to get rid of the rats! There are lots of posts on here about rats, and how to deal with them. You can take in the food at night, but that won't help much if the rats are helping themselves during the day. I had a big rat problem last year, and at the first sign of their return I now call in pest control.
Chucky Mama
You could use a treadle feederHERE which will stop them getting the food but they are a bit tall to get in the cube and are a real squeeze when it come to topping them up in a cube. There is another feeder HERE but it it quite pricey. I wish I had seen this before I bought my treadle feeder which I don't really get on with that well as food tends to clog in it. I keep trying to persuade OH to make me one of these but so far no joy.Regardless of what you do re feeders you need to get some bait boxes and poison to get rid of your rats before they get out of control.
