Chooks Aloud
Did anyone get the free DVDs with the paper? We did but can't understand why (a) the first episode was in colour yet the second and subsequent ones are in black & white and (b) why, at the end of the first episode ('On Trial') Sarah leaves and is seen leaving and walking up the street and then in the next episode ('Mistress & the Maids') she is back in the kitchen as if nothing has happened. Also I watched an episode last night ('Board Wages') and Sarah leaves again and it's virtually the same dialogue and definitely the same piece of footage when she is walking in the street. Have they missed a few episodes out, because they do not seem to follow on?
WitchHazel
No, they haven't missed any episodes out, The first season was full of creakiness; at least one of the episodes was shot twice, with the two versions being cut and spliced together. It was shot during the time when TV was changing over to colour. The first Episode was a one off pilot episode and was shot in colour. It was months and months later that the rest of series one was shot, and they just chose to ignore the fact that "Clemence" left at the end of the first episode. Episodes 2 to 6 were shot in black and white, and most of them were rather ropey. From episode 7 onwards, everything was in colour. Hope that helps.
