gongladosh
Our light sussex bantam chicken of fate, Houdini has gone broody again... She last went broody about 3 weeks ago, and we got her out of it by putting bricks on the nest to bring her temperature down - that worked within about 3 days. We can't do that at the moment as she's now in our cube with the big girls due to boss hen Kiki being ill and needing our eglu to herself right now. Does anyone know (roughly) how often she'll go broody? Edited March 23, 2011 by Guest
Barkisland
My Light Sussex (not bantam) is a broody nightmare and it's a right nuisance Every time the weather perks up a bit she takes herself indoors. Roughly every 5 weeks throughout the summer. She did it again today.
Jools
I have three Sussex bantams, one Light and two Silver. They're all fabulous little layers but also regular broodies, which is fine for me because I want to hatch two or three broods a year and they make great mums. They're not too difficult to snap out of it though, provided you catch them quickly. And to be honest, if you have Sussex bantams, you soon get to recognise the early signs of imminent broodiness so you can do something about it. gongladosh
Roughly every 5 weeks throughout the summer. She did it again today. Every 5 weeks sounds similar to mine! Yikes!
