Seemingly deliberate egg attacks?

Recommended Posts

We have had 6 beautiful ex-batts for about two months now, and apart from one seemingly gender-confused chook, nothing has gone wrong. We have had an average of 4 eggs a day, but for the last three days we have been only having three eggs, and one of them is always smashed to pieces, with yolk literally up the walls, and even on the chickens!

We have no idea wha has happened, as our chooks have always been good up until now (apart from a pecking incident that has now been solved).

Also, I just thought that I should add that we have found tho crushed, empty egg shells in the bushes where the chickens sometimes free range. The strange thing is that the shells of the ones in the bushes are always completely flat and completely dry, as though there wasn't anything in them in the first place, but there must have been, otherwise it wouldn't be completely flat, right?

Its all very confusing!

Thank you in advance.
