teacake
I've been looking at a local breeders website Teviotdate but I'm confused by some of the names which don't seem to compare to other breeders. I think a pennine blacktail is the same as a columbian blacktail, and the border sussex is some kind of sussex hybrid, I'm guessing the border blue is a blue haze/bluebelle but what about the border cou cou - a speckedly? and what is the pennine black? the pennine white (white star?) pennine amber. can anyone help me work out what they are so I can choose! thanks . Redwing
You pretty much have it sussed - there are so many 'trademark' names for hybrids The Cou Cou is a speckeldy as you say, the amber is normally a white bird with brown markings though some are creamy in colour
teacake
thanks, still confused about the pennine black though, it can't be a black rock as they list that seperately. I want to be sure the ones I choose will be happy in a run, and good family hens.
Redwing
The Black Rock is only sold by a few outlets - its a bit of a special one, said to live longer and be more healthy than the average hybrid - oly one place in Scotland hatches them I believe and outlets are few and far between - they are a good bet if you can get them Some places give hybrids names that allude to the Black Rock but they arent the same thing
Millie-Annie
My Marigold is a Suffolk Noir, not sure what else they are called, but she is lovely. I can recommend them
laurmurf
of my original 6 only the two blackrocks are still going strong. they don't look any older, haven't been poorly at all and are still laying regularly a good year after the others gave up and started to drop off their perches! Ambers seemed the most friendly out of all of our hybrids but the blackrocks seem to cause less heartache!
teacake
thanks - thats really worth knowing. the mesh has arrived for the WIR - just need the rest of the timber and then we can start building again.
StephenW
When I first started the name black rock confused me and Ithought it was a pure breed so entered it into a show . Steve
