JillM
Head chicken, Esme, has gone broody. It is over 3 days since she started so I've ordered some fertile eggs to give her something to do. (Good excuse, eh? ) As these will be my first chicken egg clutch I'm here to ask for general advice, please! I've read that the broody can stay in the communal nest box and raise her chicks in the coop, I've also read that it is better to move her and the eggs to their own place where she can raise the chicks in the early days. What advice can you give me based on your own experiences? Thanks
coco
this is my first time hatching. My broody is in her own house and run away from the other hens. I thnk the other hens would attack young chicks and also you haven't got a protective broody hogging the nest box. I would think in a communal nestbox there is always the chance of the eggs getting broken. Good luck with your hatching.
