leedg
Hi, I've searched all over the internet, and have struggled to find a concrete answer, and was wondering if anyone is able to help/advise me. I am in the process of buying some land to extend my garden, and am interested in keeping ducks. I already have 4 hybrid chickens which are kept in a 18ftx10ft enclosure in my garden, with a coop etc. Unfortunately I cant let them free range around our garden, as my 3 dogs view them as food and not as friends! I will have an area of about 300-400 square feet (roughly) available for a duck enclosure, and plan to build a 10footx10foot pond inside, about 5ft deep, and theyd have a duck house etc. Would this be adequate space for 3 or 4 runner ducks? How long would it be until the pond became a stagnant cesspit? Thanks Lee
Martin B
That size enclosure would be great for them! Not sure about how long a pool like that would take to go stagnant etc. When I had ducks I had a moveable pond which I could empty every few days and replace with clear, fresh water. Keep us updated Martin
leedg
thanks for your reply. just got to complete the purchase of land and convince the OH now! the plan is to chainsaw some trees out of the way, build the enclosure + pond this summer, and probably get the ducks this time next year, so all the grass, bushes etc have had time to grow. I think im going to have a small paddling pool which il replace the water every couple of days, aswell as the larger pond. cheers Lee
