Cleopatra doesn't lay eggs.

Recommended Posts

Hello! I just joined the Omlet forums about a month ago and have only posted a couple of times, so Hello! I'm in the US as well.

I dont know if I should be worried about my "easter egg" chicken Cleo. She started laying last July (at around 20 weeks), Laid very well 'til late October, moulted, and hasn't laid an egg since. I've looked all over the yard for hidden nests, to no avail. She seems fine, no swelling or squishy abdomen and she is really beautifully feathered. Her comb is red, and she crouches when I try to pick her up. Could she be laying internally or be a "phantom layer" Do some chickens just never lay eggs? We live in the grey and wet pacific northwest, so maybe she needs lots of bright sunshine (which we won't get til July) to get into the swing of things? Her sisters (an Australorp and a Black Sex-link) have hardly missed a day since they started laying. I'd love some input! Thanks!
