ducksndogs Posted May 5, 2011 Share Posted May 5, 2011 Hi all, I am a newbie on here. I have had my adult ducks from a local supplier almost a month ago, and although they seem to have relaxed around me when I am going in and feeding them/changing their duck bath water, etc - they panic all the time! Plus I have not had one single egg! I checked in the undergrowth but nothing. There are 3 of them, and share a large fenced off area with 3 chickens. The chickens are not let out to mix with them till the afternoon as one bullies the ducks. I want eggs, but one of the ducks seems to be on the alert all the time and seems to upset the other two. Plus, I have 3 dogs who have a look at them now & again, but they are not constantly loose and staring at them. At a bit of a loss what to do, I do give them good food suggested by supplier - so apart from wait and see? Any advice? R Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
miller30 Posted May 7, 2011 Share Posted May 7, 2011 Hi ducks can be very nervous and can take a while to settle down thats why i prefer to get sexed ducklings and bring them on are you sure they are girls could they be laying any where else my ducks will just drop their eggs anywhere if they havent laid in their house and if i dont get to them first the crows get them leanne Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

My new duck seems a lot more chilled than my original one... but, despite being very happy with each other, the newbie (who laid on the day of arrival but nothing since) appears to take a lead from duck-1 in being rather twitchy. They have loads of food, bedding, water, a sunken bath, peace (when the kids are at school) away from the house.... Hmmmmmm. Fortunately the hens lay.... non-stop.
