Is wood chip from local tree surgeon ok?

Recommended Posts

I contacted our local tree surgeon and he said I could have a load of wood chips for free in return for a drink...great! I'd just like to check that, assuming there will be a little bark mixed in from the trees he has worked on, whether this will be ok for the chickens as I know they're not supposed to be on bark, but if it's only a small amount would it be ok?

Woodchip from a tree surgeon will be fine for outdoor poultry runs and the little bit of bark still attached won't cause a problem. Just check with him what the trees were before they were chipped because some are poisonous (laurel, yew etc) and some have thorns, which won't go down well with your chickens. :)
