Birdybird1
Hello, My little pekin bantam has both her nostrils 'clogged up'. We tried to clean it with a damp cotton bud but the build-up won't budge. The thing is we don't actually know if it is a build up of dirt, small growths or just the way the nose is meant to be! We just want to be sure that nothing is stopping her from breathing properly. Have any of you noticed a bit of an accumulation in your chicken's nostrils? Thanks
gongladosh
Ours gets it from time to time, it goes eventually. Don't worry, she can breathe out of her beak until it goes.
Birdybird1
Thanks for your advice gongladosh. We've taken her to the vet to have a look and one of her nostrils is quite swollen. Unfortunately neither of the chicken owning vets were there and the one we saw admitted not to knowing too much about birds, particularly chickens. They realised that there was a nasal infection - prescribing an anti-inflammatory and anti-biotics, but they had no idea about whether the nostril was blocked, or how to clear it... gongladosh
You've done the right thing - if it's swollen, something must have become infected. Let us know how she gets on!
