Perching problems

Recommended Posts

Hello All. I bought my girls a new coop about a week ago which they went into no problem. The problem is that the new perches are much higher than in the old coop. With the old coop they just could walk in and they were on the perches. The new one has perches above head height. The result is that the girls are not perching at all and just lying on the coop floor. Not good. Tried putting them on the perches when they had gone to bed to give them the general idea but that didn't work. Tried doing it during the day so they could see the perches properly but still to no avail. Any ideas? Or have I just got lazy hens!

I'd either knock up a set of roosting bars if that's what they're used to, or put another perch in at about half height until they get the hang of it. I have a floor level and a head height perch in my big chickens' house because the two boys have never got the hang of roosting high - it means that everyone is accommodated (and the gals can poop on the unsuspecting boys below  )
