Chrissie218
Hi there We only brought our 4 hens home last Saturday and so far so good, they seem happy and settling after much squabbling and fighting in the coop at night. My question is, why do a couple of my hens want to start flapping and jumping just as it's getting time for them to go into their coop for the night. Their space is reasonably big and has fencing around it. One of them appears to want to get on to or over the fence and last night another one of them managed to flap and scramble on to the roof of the coop and then seemed happy to sit down. We were unsure if she could get down without hurting herself as the roof of the coop is very sloping. After waiting 15 mins or so when she was looking anxious about coming down I eventually managed to lift her down and put her into the coop. It is safe to leave her even if it's going dark? Will she eventually come down and go indoors on her own? I'm sure there will be many many more questions for you all, and that this is just the start!! Thanks Chris
poppy ben grace
Hi chris , welcome to the forum! You might find the hens are trying to roost on top of the coop. This is quite common in the beginning, especially as the weather is warmer now. Just keep popping them in the coop, they should get out of the habit soon enough! Dont leave them out when it gets dark whatever you do, Good luck.
