njoy
I just went to check on my broody pekin who is sitting on 7 eggs, when she decided to get off the eggs for her lunch. It was then I saw that some of the eggs are quite soiled, does this mean that the soiled eggs wont hatch?
atsw
I just went to check on my broody pekin who is sitting on 7 eggs ..... when I saw that some of the eggs are quite soiled, does this mean that the soiled eggs wont hatch? Soiled eggs stand much less chance of hatching, as there's an increased risk of a bacterial infection getting through the shell and killing the developing chick. Of my hatch that matured over Easter, Mum was great and kept her eggs in very good condition. 5/5 hatched. My other pekin (sister of the good broody) did an appalling job with her six eggs, and heavily soiled four of them during incubation. None of the four soiled eggs hatched. I've not looked inside the eggs yet (but will do tomorrow) to see if they were fertile, but given the other pekin hatched 5/5, there's good reason to believe that the 6 that Caramel had were good to start with.
