Wyandotte colour help please!! *PICS ADDED*

Recommended Posts

I've just hatched some chicks including 2 blue laced wyandottes.

When I bought the eggs from Wernlas they mentioned something about getting different colours from Blue laced - but I thought they said if you breed it with a different colour you get 50:25:25 ratios. But now reading other forums there is talk that breeding 2 blue laced will get different colours....I'm confused???!! :eh:

I know there is some on here with a lot of wyandotte experience - could you guys help clear it up??

Both my chicks (hatched Sunday/Monday) are dark brown with very ginger stripes - one very slightly lighter. I can't work out how to post photos (if anyone like to tell me how to do that would be great  )

Thanks for your help!

Females usually get their wing feathers quicker but its not an exact science

re the two dottes - its likely the darker one is gold laced but not 100 percent, the lighter one should really be a more solid colour so it could be any colour :?

Thanks Tasha! I'm doing my PhD in genetics so I'm fascinated by these colour ratios you get get with some breeds!!

Think my next hatch will definitely be more blue laced - I'm exicted to have a bit of a colour lottery...and they look so fab as chicks and adults!!!

I like all the colours so that OK with me

To be honest I'm even happier now because I wanted silver or gold when I was buying the eggs but they didn't have silver available or enough gold. Of the 4 gold eggs I bought 3 didn't devlop and last did develop but hasn't hatched.
