Chickens stop laying and bit balding/snapped feathers

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

two of our three chickens, both warrens, have stopped laying and have lost some feathers. I can't see any lice etc but when you look where feathers were they look like some have snapped off and it looks a bit scabby. They have been like this for about a month. I first thought they were molting but they haven't list many feathers and luke I say they seem to have snapped off rather than been lost.

They seem fine and the other chicken is fine too!

We had a fourth chicken who seemed like this a year ago and we took her to the vet but never got to the bottom of what was wrong.(she died - :( due to a fox attack!) so now we are worried it seems to be happening again.

Any ideas?! We have worked with vermx and put diatom down around the egloobat times too.

Thankyou for any ideas you may have!?

well if they've stopped laying something is up, you could try giving them some spiced mineral supplement for their feathers.

One of my chickens looks like she's started to moult in one spot and the feathers haven't grown back proper, only a few mm, but she seems fine and she's still laying.
