Sue Thomson
Hi, I have a golen silkie - Miss Messi (1 1/2 years old) who has been broody for 3 weeks (one of our white ones Hua Mai - has now joined her who is 1), to start with I tried cooling her bottom end, blocking next box once everyone had finished laying. But wondered if I just left them on the nest day and night (taking them off every now and then to feed and water) would they naturally stop ......... someone said as I let them on the next box and then block it - this starts the broody process from the start. We only have 3 girls (Snowdrop is feeling a bit lonely now) so splitting them would just make them stressed. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks Sue (feeling sorry for my girls when I know there aren't any eggs under them and certainly won't be any chicks).
Olly
There is some advice about broody hens in the FAQs here - you can let her sit it out, but keep a close eye for mites and lice, and make sure she does get off the nest to eat and drink.
