Opinions needed please - which hybrids?

Recommended Posts

Can't stop thinking about which hybrids to get now that the cube is due in a couple of weeks. I have decided to get 4 and have definitely decided to have a Goldline and a Black Tail. I have four other possibles and need to choose two. They are a Speckled Rock, a Nera, a Speckledy and Amberlink. I would like friendly girls who will fit in well with the Goldline and Black Tail. They must also not mind being confined too much as they will have to stay in their run for much of the time, certainly initially. Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Thank you from a very excited prospective chicken owner!!

How big is the run? Bluebell's, Sussex Star's and Speckleys are heavy birds so they might not be suitable for a small run. White stars are great little birds, although they can be a bit "skittish" at first, but still great, amber stars (or amberlinks) are very friendly and docile, black rocks are also a really good bird.

If you have a relatively small run, I wouldn't go for bluebells, sussex stars or speckledys.

Out of personal preference I'd chose a black rock (rhode rock) to be in the flock, I think they're a great bird.

I had two Amberlink ex-batts. They were lovely natured, very placid and quiet. I have a speckledy now, she is in a pen which is about 8' x 6' and at first when I got her she did keep escaping out over the fence (it's only about 4' high) so I had to clip her wings - although she hasn't tried again since they grew back in. She's nice natured though and pretty quiet. :)
