Watery crop & stuck egg?

Recommended Posts

Hiya, this chicken's being laying normally, the other 2 stopped a few weeks ago. Yesterday she was acting odd, standing in one spot, looking a funny shape and not eating but drinking quite a lot. She spent hours on the nest in the morning but eventually gave up with no egg. She hasn't laid for a couple of days: odd as she is usually very regular. We gave her a warm bath to relax her muscles but still no egg. We later tried again as she seemed to be going downhill fast. She seemed to be nodding off when we bathed her! We also gave her a blow dry so she wouldn't go to sleep wet. Today she hasn't improved - and still no egg. We' e also realised her crop is very water-balloonish this morning, so it hasn't emptied overnight. Not sure what the next step should be? At the moment I plan to give her another warm bath later on. Thought the watery crop might be sour crop like one of our other chickens has had recently, but she doesn't smell at all.

Any help much appreciated :( x

IF there is an egg not moving fast enough (stuck) her crop will go into stasis(not do anything) This can then go sour, there are lots of posts for suggestions on how to help this (search sour crop) :) It is prob a bit late for today but if she has not laid by the morning, I would take her to a vet to feel for it.
