Second hatch, polands and duble yokers

Recommended Posts

I have just been to collect the eggs planned for my second hatch, unfortunately they didnt have as many eggs as I wanted so have thrown in 6 poland eggs for free. Now I don't want to pointlessly hatch eggs where I don't want the offspring but I must admit I dont know a lot about polands other than the big hairdo! I did very briefly have a bantam frizzle poland which was a beauty but unfortunatly was picked on mercilessly by the others so in the end I returned her. Now these eggs look pretty big, certainly not bantam sized, how big are standard polands? Will they live happily with pekins or are they likely to be picked on, and also at what age can thy be sexed? I must admit one of the things I like about pekins is being able to sex easily at a young age and not having to wait to see if they start crowing or fighting!

Now onto the pekin eggs, a few of them look to have been a bit soiled and wiped clean, so am I right in thinking they are less likely to hatch? or that fact they have been wiped clean make them more viable? Also one of the eggs looks suspiciously large for a pekin egg and I think may well be a double yoker, is it possible for a double to hatch?
