cathybf
I am very excited as I have just candled my 11 eggs( 9 cream legbar, 1maran and 1 bluebelle) for the first time but am a little confused by my findings. They have been in the incubator 9 days. This is the first time I have incubated eggs and I am totally smitten. Seven of the eggs appeared to have a dark shadow which I presume to be the yolk which is attached to about two thirds of the outside. They all have air sacks.I can't really see blood vessels but am using a torch with an egg cup that has a small hole in attached to it(sounds odd but it seems to sort of work !!)Four of the eggs( all cream legbar) appear to have free floating yolks.Am I right in thinking these ones are infertile and the others are fertile ? I dont want to throw out any that might be ok.
craftyhunnypie
Yes - usually if the yolks are normal yolk size & floaty by now - they are usually infertile. Candle a shop bought egg for comparison. The others you describe sound fertile. 2 thirds dark by now is about right. I very rarely see veins at day 9 - 10, just the dark mass you describe & sometimes a small dark floating thing, about the size of a baked bean. This usually floats around towards the light & jumps etc. Amazing to see! Emma.x
