One chicken down - another on the way :-(

Recommended Posts

I am a teacher at a school and we bought 8 chickens about 4 weeks ago from eglu. We have started getting lots of eggs, although some are very soft.

Anyway, we arrived at school this morning to find one dead in the run. By the afternoon another had started to limp. I picked it up to check it's leg, to find that runny egg-white-type stuff was dripping out from its bottom. Poor thing isn't running around like all of the others, and doesn't seem too happy, although it still eating I think.

Does anyone have any advice? I don't really want to get into school tomorrow and find another one gone - the children will be very sad! They are in a very large run, with lots of grasses growing in it, they get layers pellets and corn, and I've just bought some grit today - although I thought layer's pellets had grit in already.

I have no idea what was wrong with the other one as someone had removed it before I saw it. I really want to keep this one going - any ideas much appreciated!!
