Green Tea
I can't honestly say that I understand what your question is ... But, your chicks obviously think you are Mum I think you will just have to be a bit tough. As you say, you can't sit and cuddle them all day and so long as they have food, water and adequate heat they will be just fine. Eventually they will give up crying for you as they would after being separated from a broody. It is sweet though!
Olly
I think the word 'mardy' will only be recognised by people from certain parts of the world (I spent some years living north of Watford Gap so I've got an advantage!) They're like any animal, especially baby ones - they see you as Mum and want you there for security. I'd just ignore them, if you keep rewarding their behaviour by giving them more attention, then they'll go on doing it.
Ygerna
As the previous poster has said, they see you are their source of food and comfort. Once they start to establish themselves as a flock, well, I was going to say they'll stop but, not sure they will. My girls still come tearing accross the lawn at me whenever I go out. Because they adore me of course, it has nothing to do with food
emmastar
Lol i was just going to say the older girls tear across the lawn when they see me in the garden and if the door is open they just walk in the house for a peek . if we are eating it normaly involves 6 sets of eyes staring at you beggig they slole my sons donut the other day and ran off with it the bad girls . the chicks are so adorable and will soon be out with the rest full time .They stil chirp for me but im doing my best to try to ignore them ,
Kirstie
ha ha im so pleased to see this post as my 3 day old chicks have cottoned on to the fact that if they chirp really loudly I come in and check they are ok and when I look into their brooder they are standing on tip toes looking up to see if they can see me and go all quiet like butter wouldnt melt! They are in the house at the mo but can say if they keep that game up they will be in the garage by the end of the week! Although I am like you and cannot bear to listen to them so am currently making the issue worse! I will have to learn to be tough!
