Nucleus Frames

Recommended Posts

I still have the original brood frames from my nucleus, and have had my bee's for five weeks. Each time i inspect the bees I find the Queen on the last frame away from the front of the hive, which means that I cannot move the shorter original frames from the main hive into the other half of the bee hive, which I need to do because the bee's keep building wild comb beneath. I have added new brood frames 4 in total, but they have only drawn out 2. Can I move the original frames t the other side of the Omlet Bee Hive and put in a Queen excluder. The trouble is that there are brood on most of the frames.

Also since yesterday there have been groups of bees on the floor near the hive (like in clusters) are these drones egected from the hive. Reading up on this auggests that this should happen in August, therefore seems early. The bee's are forage normally. Any ideas

They will prefer to build wild comb directly under the brood nest. Simple answer is to remove that space. Fill it!

Drones are easily distinguished from workers. Dates that bees do things might be a guide but that is all. They are really irrelevant to what actually happens on any given date, as there are far too many factors affecting the behaviour of the colony.
