Unsecure chicken perches

Speckles was fine when I let them out into the garden this morning, went into the box and I thought she was broody as for the last few weeks she's spent a fair bit of time in there, like a couple of full days on and off - although she was out and about yesterday. OH found her dead in the box late this afternoon, no sign of injury or being egg-bound although she hadn't laid for a couple of days, she was about 6 months old.

 

I'm a bit worried now that there's some disease that the others will get? also, is it safe to eat the eggs that the others have laid recently? I've gave some to a friend yesterday

 

Appreciate any advise or information, obviously we've cleaned out the Cube but not sure if there's extra cleaning measures we should be taking? or if we should not eat the others eggs for a while?

Sorry to hera about Speckles.

we've had this happen to us, for no reason, and have never found any reason, or had reccurances. sometimes it just happens. I expect the vet would find the reason , but the hen has gone, so perhaps spend the $ on something else? We just kept a really strict eye on the others, and kept everything very very clean, (stupidly clean!) for a few weeks.
