The Raven
Hi, just curious - never kept chickens and about to get some ducks, poss chickens later if possible - how do you clean the eggs before eating? I heard somewhere that simply wiping them with a damp cloth and putting them in the fridge is completely the wrong thing to do, so what do you do with them? Just wondering
fluffy chick
Cleaning them removes a protective layer. Unless they have poo on I don't clean mine.
The Raven
Oh - I thought they had to be waqshed.... But if they do have....'waste' on them do you just buse a tissue, or? sorry - really think about this sort of thing...only fresh eggs I've ever touched are Bearded dragon eggs, when I was putting them into the incubator. (which my 9 year old neice built in an emergency...hatched them, too )
fluffy chick
If they look dirty I wash them under the tap. But some people would say you should only wash them just before you use them as the protective layer helps to keep them fresh. Personally I like them to look nice and clean in the egg shelter
Ain't Nobody Here
I don't wash mine. They rarely get dirty anyway .

fluffy chick
I haven't heard of this but I know you can get proper egg cleaning stuff I think it's a liquid though, but there could be a powered one too.
