Suzy
Hi, I have two lovely ex batt girls, who have been with me for 16 months now. I think they were young when they came out of the battery cage, although one is showing the signs of peritonitis. I am hoping it's a softee but fearing the worst, if she goes, JoJo will be on her own. I know that having a hen on her own is not ideal and DH is suggesting a break from hens (we are about to move and thinks it might be easier when JoJo goes not to have hens and start again in spring next year.) So, my idea was to borrow two hens when Flo goes, that way I have them on loan, JoJo is not on her own, and when she goes, the borrowed hens can return to their permanent home. Does this sound practical? Obviously, my priority is JoJo, and if she carries on until Spring next year, then she moves with us, nothing is going to happen to her, but I have to be realistic and plan for her carrying on after Flo inevitably goes.... Has anyone had any experience of how to do this, and whether my idea would work? Thanks Suzy
laurmurf
I've borrowed hens from friends and neighbours - mostly for broodies - but it works really well! mostin has a constant stream of waifs and strays visiting her house temporarily and permanently too
Suzy
Thank you. That's reassuring. Hope I don't need to do it for a while but good to know it's something that can be done!
