rachelabi
Hello I am new to this forum. I am Rachel and I used to have four chickens - 2 ambers and 2 goldlines. We got them at Easter so still quite new to looking after chickens. When we went on holiday (with friends feeding the chickens) one of our Ambers starting pecking the others. There was a lot of blood and damage around their bottoms. My friend separated the chickens but on our return we gave the troublesome one to a friend. The Goldline chickens started to look better quicker (although one has since died of a prolapse I think) and our surviving one is beginning to grow back its feathers. The Amber that was pecked the worst (had a fist size wound) did look really ill for some days but is now looking much better in herself and behaving normally although not laying. Its her bottom thats the problem - its really dirty and smelly with white stuff (poo?) all over the back and her remaining feathers are dirty. I saw her poo earlier and it seemed to get a bit stuck but came out eventually. I have seen her at other times sitting really still with clear liquid dropping out of her. I could take a photo if that helps (can I attach one here?) Thanks for reading Rachel
alet_chicken
Hi, in my experience mucky bums usually point to some sort of internal infection, in which case she would need antibiotics. So my suggestion would be to take her to the vet. How is her wound healing? It may be that she has some internal damage from the pecking. A vet should also be able to advise on this. Ps. Just saw it was your first post. Welcome to the forum! Hope you get this sorted soon.
