Why have they stopped laying

Recommended Posts

I have 3 hybrid hens and have had 3 eggs a day since they started laying in Nov 2009. I am now getting one egg a day + 1 softie every so often. I have wormed them with Flubenvet and given extra grit and shell but no improvement in the situation which has been going on for about a month. Do you think they are just getting old or should I be looking for some other problem which is not obvious?

Has there been any change to their feed, different make etc? I have found that can make a big difference to egg laying when they are older. If there has been no change it probably is their age, although they may still surprise you with a few eggs now and again, or start again in the spring when they have had a rest :D

My gingernut is 4 years old and didn't lay for about 6 months - I got them some mash in case they felt like a change from pelletts - she scoffed loads and has been laying every day for the last few weeks :D:D:D she will probably stop again soon though  Egg production just gets less predictable the older they get.
