Jigsaw1711
Hi there Please can anybody help? Sage (light sussex) has been croaking strangely for the last couple of days, we thought it was maybe a cough so we have ordered some 'Respite' on the internet. This morning when we let her out she was making this awful croaking/groaning noice and had her beak open as if she couldn't breathe, within an hour or so she was dead, really awful . Now my other light sussex hen 'onion' is wheezing, heavy breathing and she makes the odd croak noise now and again, but she is eating/drinking as normal. I've just been to the country store and bought some'poultry nutri-drops' and given all of the hens a drop of that down their throats. I've put a garlic clove in their water and cleaned the hen house out. I'm really worried that they are all going to get sick. Can anybody advise what this illness is and whats the best thing to do? Tweety
Sorry to hear about your girls. It sounds like a respiratory problem to me, and I would get Onion to the vet tomorrow. In the meantime, I would separate her from your other hens and keep her somewhere warm. I would also listen to the breathing of your other girls, and take to the vet any you are concerned about - if it is an infection, you may need antibiotics for all of them. Good luck
