Woodchip floorings - Cleaning ????

Recommended Posts

Hi All

ive recently got a eglu and run and i have it stood on concrete and im wanting to put some flooring down for winter, and woodchip sounds ideal

ive been lookings on Flyte of fancy website and the prices seem ok, but it mentions if you cover the floor you only have to empty it once or twice a year?????

if i left it that long id asume it would smell and get filthy in the run

my question is.........

Do you use woodchip as your flooring??

how often do you clean urs out if using this?

whats your cleaning routeen when you use this flooring

sorry if i sound clueless, but i want to see how other use this stuff before i purchase some

cheers all

Hiya

I've been using Cosy Coop bedding for the last year in my WIR. I change it round about every 4/5 months and it just goes straight onto the flower beds and composts down well. If you use woodchip make sure it's hardwood, the softer wood chip gets in a right state and goes all mouldy. I made that mistake when I first had my WIR. There's so many different varieties of bedding on the market at the moment, it does make choosing all the more difficult!

I use woodchip.

I tend to completely change it once a year and shovel out and replace every 3 or so months but not a complete change (maybe a couple of bags - in a WIR). I use bio dry every couple of months and i rake it and poo shovel once a week or so.

Although i may not be the perfect example of chicken keeping the run doesn't smell and the chickens are all healthy.
