Shanijo
Hi there I wonder if anyone could give some advice we recently lost one of our girls and our other girl Belle seemed rather unhappy so we decided to get some new girls to keep her company. We brought an amber Star (Milly)and a speckled hen (Fifi) both at point of lay we introduced them both straight away as Belle has always been a very good natured girl after a few ruffled feathers here and there we thought that things had started to settle down and the pecking order had been settled, but after coming home today the speckled hen we found has quite a few feathers missing on the back of her neck and also blood had been drawn. We have currently brought her indoors in a large box so that the wound can heal better but I would be grateful if any of you had any advice as to where to go from here I don,t really want to get rid of the speckled hen but I don,t want her attacked either (the amber star seems to be okay). Egluntyne
Some advice here re introducing new hens. Apart from anything else, it is always a good idea to quarantine new hens for a week or so to avoid bringing illness to your exiting hens.
